As the owner of the business Possum Hollow, let me first introduce myself. My name is Darren Pemberton and I am
the grandson of Roy & Pauline Mathis who are the founders of what is now known as Possum Hollow Farm.
In the early 1960's Roy, Pauline and their two daughters moved to Boone County from the Boonville area and eventually
settled just north of Columbia on Brown School Road. Roy was a real estate broker and Pauline worked for the University Hospital
as a dietitian. A modest home was built and a small farm was started on this property. Roy dabbled in several types of
livestock here on Possum Hollow Farm; hogs, cattle, horses and even some goats... much to the displeasure of my grandmother.
She hated goats!
Why "Possum Hollow Farm"??? To tell you the truth I have no answer to that question. My assumption is that
there must have been an abundance of possums. There are still quite a few so whatever the prime habitat is for possums,
we must still have it.
As the years have passed, the farm is no longer in the country since Columbia has expanded to the point
that our small farm is now surrounded by the city. Possum Hollow was transformed from a farm to the base of operations
for a small business for tree removal, stump grinding other yard maintenance needs. We've undergone yet another
evolution and are now providing woodworking services. I've done woodworking for myself and for friends and family for the
last 30 years and now seems like a great time to do this professionally. I'm having a blast doing what I love and I
hope to share my enthusiasm with you in the form of high quality wood products that will last for years.
